Welcome to Exford First School!

Welcome and thank you for showing an interest in learning at Exford Church of England First School. This is an incredibly special school with a strong sense of community in which each pupil is a valued and respected member.

We are an inclusive school. We welcome all pupils and strive to ensure they become enthusiastic learners. The confidence, happiness and security of our pupils is our priority at all times.

Our children know we have three school rules, which are: King hands, Kind hearts, Kind words. These three principles help us to ensure that all children get the very best out of their education every day.

Our curriculum is focused on the needs of our children in our community. We work very closely with the Exmoor National Park Authority to deliver Generation Exmoor - see our Generation Exmoor page to find out more.

'Prepare, Believe, Achieve'

We're a proud member of the Moorland Federation, embodying a shared vision of inclusive, enriching, and sustainable education that puts student well-being at the forefront. Our students are also participants in our flagship outdoor learning initiative, Generation Exmoor, allowing them to immerse in the beauty of our local National Park and apply their in-class learning in a real-world context. This unique experience magnifies their learning journey, making it more relevant, memorable, and enjoyable.

If you're intrigued to learn more about our vibrant learning community or wish to pay us a visit, we're just a phone call or an email away. We would be thrilled to share our vision and values with you, and give you a glimpse into the joyous journey of learning at Exford Church of England VC First School. Welcome to our family!

Strengthening learning opportunities

At Exford First School, we work in very close partnership with Cutcombe First School to strengthen learning opportunities for all pupils. As small rural schools, we have linked together to create larger, vibrant learning cohorts while keeping the warmth and community feel of our individual schools. Reception to Year 2 pupils from both schools are taught together in Robin Class at Cutcombe, while Years 3 and 4 pupils are taught together in Kingfisher Class at Exford. Families can drop children at whichever site is most convenient, with pupils transported safely between schools by minibus, supported by School Transport. This shared approach enables us to provide a broader social and educational experience, while maintaining the personalised care and attention that sits at the heart of both schools.

We endeavour to help our pupils grow and gain skills to be independent in their learning and offer a foundation for lifelong learning in school, at home and in the wider world.
